Pat Grannan is a hopefully improving novice border collie handler located in Southern California.
Pat is currently working with two Border Collies who he has recently moved to Pro - Novice level for USBCHA competitions.
Pat is working hard to reduce the "handlercap" for "Maggie" and "Piper" who have to train and compete with Pat.
Pat is also a photographer and often has sheepdog trial photos available for viewing
and purchase at magrammedia.
Pat, Maggie and Piper are in weekly training (trial schedules and other committmwents permitting) with Jennifer Clark Ewers at Canines and Ewe in Campo, California. Jennifer is one of the country's top trainers and handlers. Her website can be accessed at Canines and Ewe.
L&M Uno "Piper" is Pat's newest dog. Piper moved to California from Laura Hicks in South Dakota in January 2009. I'm sure she wonders what she did to deserve banishment from a working ranch in South Dakota to a townhome in suburban Irvine, California but she has adjusted well and seems to enjoy the weather in So Cal.
Piper was running Pro-Novice and Open Ranch for Laura in South Dakota. After a very brief get acquainted period running Novice in two trials in Southern California Piper moved back up to Pro Novice at the Sonoma County Wine Country Sheepdog Trial in March 2009. Piper will be running Pro Novice or Open Ranch (depending on what is offered) for the foreseeable future until hopefully Piper and Pat will be able to move up to Open together.
Maggie has been with Pat since late summer 2005. Her breeding is unknown as she was originally purchased by a family with small children from a Newport Beach pet store because she was "cute." Once they realized how much energy and ocd Border Collies exhibit they gave her up to the local vet. A few homes later and Maggie made it to Pat on probably her last chance. Pat and Maggie have been a team ever since - just maybe not always a good team.
Ramsay is Pat's first Border Collie and got us all started on this herding thing. Although he enjoys himself greatly Ramsay is really a chaser instead of a herder so his herding days are largely in the past.
